Montier-en-Der’s Nature and Animal Photo Festival
(Haute-Marne – France)
Unique
in Europe, 3rd weekend of November.
It takes place in the heart of migration, on the biggest artificial lake in
Europe (40,000 cranes, 275 bird species).
It is located in a bocage area, a few minutes far from the Der-Chantecoq
Lake (the biggest artificial lake in Europe), in magnificent woodland. It is
a green and calm landscape that favours relaxation. The city is charming and
has every necessary shop and facility.
Its
foundation dates back to about 693 AC. Church wooden panels, 16th
century stainless-glass windows from the « Troyes » school are
worth seeing. You might also be interested in the exhibitions of 19th
century cast-iron statues and fountains.
Purebred stallions and « Ardennes » draught horses can be seen
in Montier-en-Der’s national stud farm that was founded in 1806 by
Napoleon I on the site of the ancient abbey.
There is an abbey church and all-the-year-round exhibitions can be seen at
the Tourism Office. Horse races take place from June to August.
