ALBERT 80300 FRANCE
Historical Background :

Albert's International Wildlife Film Festival was created in 1991 by a team of
twelve voluntary people.
One of them had had the idea to achieve a cultural challenge which would underline their
passion .
The first year, Albert's Festival was a venture full of surprises and discoveries and, as
years went by, it quickly
became an event which couldn't be ignored in the world of animal films. It is now greatly
considered by directors
and producers on the five continents. Every year, thanks to its international
personalities who compose a supreme panel of judges, this Festival rewards the most recent
animal films shot by amateur or professional
film directors worldwide.

17 th International Wildlife Film Festival
MARCH 2007 , 17-25th
Albert's Festival takes place every year in March. It lasts eight days, in front
of an audience and in a modern
theatre equiped with all the appliances and technique necessary to such a huge event. This
theatre called
" Théâtre du Jeu de Paume " stands in the city centre, next to a big car park
and has six hundred seats
available.

ALBERT :
Albert is the third biggest city in the Somme Département. It is in
the north of France, between Paris and Lille.
It can easily be reached from Paris or its airports thanks to the motorway (A 1 ) and the
TGV Haute Picardie
station.

Paris - Albert 130 Km
The Festival :

There is a pre-inaugural evening
devoted to a country and which shows its wildlife, its folore and
also a preview of extracts from the films selected.
There are evenings with precise themes
:
On these occasions specific films are shown and special guests are invited.
An official competition takes place in
which each film selected is shown to an international jury composed
of people who are famous in the world of cinema, television, the press or in organisations
specialized in
wildlife.
During the gala evening, the panel of
judges, the producers and the directors who take part in the competition are introduced to
the audience and so are prestigious guests of honour.
Every day, there are special viewings for
school children and the Wednesday afternoon is devoted
to children with films, workshops, games, and animal quizzes.
For a whole week, there are exhibitions
linked to animals with sculptors, painters, photographers,
taxidermists, aquariums and multimedia columns.
The festival ends up with the panel of
judges giving their awards list in front of personalities and
the
audience. Finally, the best film of the year is shown to the audience.
During the Festival :
The festival is also a means to discover Albert and
the Haute Somme area

A tour of the eel-breeding area :
These are splendid areas in which ponds and rivers play an exceptional
duet.The tourist who enjoys
aquatic landscapes or fishing will discover the natural and protected environment
of the" larris picard"
while walking around the places where the tasty eel of the ponds of the Haute Somme is
traditionally captured.

The Souvenir Tour :
Albert is the starting point of the tour to remember the 1916 Battle of the Somme.
The Tourism Office
organizes guided tours in places such as Beaumont-Hamel, La Boisselle, Longueval, Mametz,
Pozières and Thiepval.

The Shelters Museum :
This museum takes us into the trenches of the
first World War, into a strange place, ten metres under the ground. In a two hundred and
six metres long gallery, the daily life of the "poilus " and "tommies
" has
been reconstituted in a realistic way.
Visits : rue de Boulan (next to the church), every day during the opening hours , not
closed at lunch time in July and August.

make
ecological discoveries.

the falls.
" Chapelle Madame" , built
in 1754 , baroque style ,
